SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Some young offenders convicted of having sex with underage partners would be able to request the crime be removed from their records under a bill narrowly passed by the Oregon House on Wednesday. Voting 31 to 27, the House sent the bill to the Senate with little discussion.
Under the bill, in order for adult offenders to apply to have their records erased, coercion or force could not have been used in the sex act. Other conditions include completion of all required court-ordered programs and treatments. Full Article
After reading this article, it makes me wonder the competency of the DA in Oregon. He is appalled that someone of 18 years of age is have sex with something 16-17. I’m not an expert on the situation, but if an 18 year old in the same social atmosphere (High School) as a 17 year old, then how does one not expect both parties to not act in a similar fashion. What is the difference between consensual sex at 17 from 18? I know when i was growing up i knew half of my high school was engaged in these activities. A lot of these people went on to becoming doctors, CPAs, teachers, lawyers, law enforcement, etc. I will give any DA in the US one million dollars if they can give me a logical reason explaining to me how an 18 year old that has sex with a 16 or 17 year old (without force or fear; consensual in nature) is any different than an 18 year old and an 18 year old having sex.
